Established in 2019, the Sri Lankan Australian Lawyers Association (SALA) was created to support and connect legal professionals of Sri Lankan heritage across Australia. Here's how it all began.
The Sri Lankan Australian Lawyers Association, also known as SALA, is a not-for-profit community service organisation founded in July 2019. It is an incorporated association governed by the SALA Executive Committee and accountable to its members. SALA exists to serve as a professional and cultural bridge for Sri Lankan-background legal practitioners in Australia.
The idea for SALA was born from a consultation among Sri Lankan-background legal professionals in Victoria. This group recognised the need for a representative body that could provide a voice, culturally sensitive support, and professional opportunities tailored to the community.
In early 2019, a Steering Committee of 10 dedicated legal professionals came together to draft SALA’s constitution and establish the association officially. The association was incorporated in July 2019.
SALA continues to grow thanks to the dedication of its members and community. If you’re a legal professional with Sri Lankan heritage or interest, join us today.
